  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg

  • Red and pink food coloring
  • Royal icing or buttercream for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and sour cream.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until dough forms.
  6. Divide dough in half; add red food coloring to one half and pink to the other, kneading until color evenly distributed.
  7. Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch thickness and cut into heart shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets about 1 inch apart.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges just start to turn golden.
  10. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing or buttercream.
