Freshly Baked Sugar Cookies

These classic sugar cookies are perfect for any occasion! Soft, chewy, and easily customizable with frosting and sprinkles, they’re a delightful treat for everyone.

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Place cookies on ungreased baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Decorate with frosting and sprinkles as desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of almond extract to the dough. These cookies are also delicious with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.
