Spicy Wontons in Chilli Sauce

Deliciously tender wontons filled with a savory spicy pork mixture, served in a vibrant and aromatic chilli sauce that adds the perfect kick to this classic Chinese-inspired appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • 200g ground pork
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 small red chili, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • For the chilli sauce:
  • 3 tablespoons chili oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground pork, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, chopped red chili, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  2. Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the filling into the center.
  3. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold into a triangle, and press edges firmly to seal. Optionally, bring the two corners together to form a traditional wonton shape.
  4. Repeat until all filling is used.
  5. Bring a pot of water to boil. Cook wontons in batches for 3-4 minutes or until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together chili oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, minced garlic, and sesame seeds to make the chilli sauce.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cooked wontons and toss gently for 1-2 minutes to warm through.
  8. Serve wontons drizzled with the prepared chilli sauce.

Notes

For an extra level of heat, sprinkle some crushed red pepper flakes on the wontons before serving or serve with a side of cooling cucumber salad.
