This Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole is a comforting and delicious side dish, perfect for holidays or any cozy meal. The sweet potatoes are combined with warm maple syrup and topped with a crunchy pecan streusel.

  • 3 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • For the topping:
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Boil sweet potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the sweet potatoes. Add milk, melted butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour sweet potato mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine flour and brown sugar for the topping. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in chopped pecans.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
