Homemade Soft Sugar Cookies

These soft sugar cookies are melt-in-your-mouth delicious, perfect for any occasion. Their tender texture and delicate sweetness make them an instant favorite!

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of almond extract along with the vanilla. These cookies are delicious with a simple dusting of powdered sugar or frosted with your favorite buttercream!
