Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4-6 tablespoons ice water
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Make the crust: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together.
  4. Press the dough into the bottom of an ungreased 9×13 inch baking pan. Prick the crust all over with a fork.
  5. Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  6. Make the filling: In a medium bowl, combine pecan halves, maple syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and salt.
  7. Pour the filling over the baked crust.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and golden brown.
  9. Let cool completely before cutting into bars.
  10. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, toast the pecans before adding them to the filling. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat.
