chocolate cake

A rich and moist chocolate cake perfect for any celebration or a delightful dessert treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in boiling water carefully until the batter is smooth (batter will be thin).
  5. Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For extra richness, frost with a chocolate ganache or cream cheese frosting and serve with fresh berries.
