  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra burst of flavor, drizzle the cooled cookies with a simple orange glaze made from powdered sugar and orange juice.
