Kashmiri Pink Chai

Kashmiri Pink Chai is a fragrant, milky tea with a distinctive pink hue, traditionally flavored with salt, cardamom, and nuts, perfect for a warming and unique beverage experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons green tea leaves (preferably Kashmiri Noon Chai leaves)
  • 4 green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped almonds and pistachios (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Add the green tea leaves, crushed cardamom pods, and baking soda to the boiling water. Let it boil for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally; the tea will turn a deep red/pink color.
  3. Add the milk and salt to the tea mixture and bring it back to a gentle boil, stirring continuously to blend well and develop the pink hue.
  4. Simmer the tea on low heat for another 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  5. Strain the tea into cups, garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

For an extra creamy texture, use full-fat milk and serve with traditional Kashmiri breads or snacks.
