Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Fluffy and tender homemade buttermilk biscuits that are perfect for breakfast or as a savory side. These classic biscuits combine a flaky texture with a rich, buttery flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and gently stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently fold it over 3-4 times to create layers.
  6. Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thickness and cut biscuits using a floured round cutter.
  7. Place biscuits onto the baking sheet, close but not touching.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top.
  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, use a sharp cutter without twisting when cutting the dough. Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam.
