  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (optional for chocolate version)
  • 1 cup buttercream frosting
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • Heart-shaped cupcake liners or heart cupcake pan

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your heart-shaped cupcake pan by greasing it or lining with heart-shaped cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder (if using).
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
