Garlic Parmesan Green Bean Casserole

This Garlic Parmesan Green Bean Casserole is a delicious and updated twist on the classic holiday side dish. Fresh green beans are tossed in a creamy, cheesy sauce and topped with crispy garlic parmesan breadcrumbs for a flavor explosion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 tbsp butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Steam or blanch green beans until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
  3. While the green beans are cooking, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Add panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese to the skillet. Cook, stirring constantly, until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and toasted, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add heavy cream, chicken broth, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until slightly thickened.
  6. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Add the cooked green beans to the sauce and toss to coat.
  8. Pour the green bean mixture into a baking dish. Top with the garlic parmesan breadcrumb mixture and sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an extra crispy topping, broil for the last 1-2 minutes of baking, watching carefully to prevent burning. Serve immediately for best results.
