Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • For the frosting:
    – 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    – 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 23 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Alternately add dry ingredients and sour cream to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.
  6. Add milk and stir gently until dough is smooth.
  7. Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cookies should remain soft.
  9. Allow cookies to cool completely on wire racks before frosting.
  10. For frosting, beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and spreadable.
  11. Spread frosting evenly on cooled cookies and top with sprinkles.
  12. Let frosting set before serving.

Notes

For an extra special touch, chill the cookies slightly before frosting to prevent melting, and use gel food coloring to tint the frosting in festive colors.
