Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and active sourdough starter until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until incorporated.
  6. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and dark chocolate chunks evenly.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until cookies are set around the edges but still soft in the center.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra decadent touch, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on the cookies just before baking to enhance the chocolate flavor.
