sausage pasta

A flavorful and hearty sausage pasta dish combining savory Italian sausage with tender pasta and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for a comforting dinner.

  • 300g pasta (penne or rigatoni)
  • 250g Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, and red chili flakes if using. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Toss the cooked pasta into the sauce, mixing well to coat all the pasta evenly.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For added richness, stir in a splash of heavy cream just before serving, or add sautéed mushrooms for extra texture.
