Shepherds Pie

Shepherds Pie is a comforting, hearty dish featuring savory ground meat and vegetables topped with creamy mashed potatoes and baked to golden perfection.

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and carrots; cook until softened.
  3. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Stir in garlic and tomato paste.
  4. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; simmer until mixture thickens.
  5. Stir in peas, and season with salt and pepper.
  6. Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Top with mashed potatoes, spreading to cover the filling completely.
  8. Dot mashed potatoes with butter for a golden crust.
  9. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden and filling is bubbly.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top before baking or add fresh herbs like rosemary to the meat mixture.
