Date Brownies

These Date Brownies are a naturally sweet and fudgy dessert, combining rich chocolate with caramel-like dates for a wholesome treat.

  • 1 cup pitted dates
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. Soak the pitted dates in boiling water for 10 minutes, then blend into a smooth paste.
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk eggs, melted coconut oil, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract.
  5. Mix the date paste into the wet ingredients until fully incorporated.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir gently until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

For extra richness, sprinkle chopped walnuts or dark chocolate chips on top before baking.
