Homemade Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs

Savory, tender meatballs simmered in rich French onion soup sauce, slow-cooked to perfection in a crock pot for an effortless and comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups French onion soup (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form mixture into 1 to 1.5-inch meatballs and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown meatballs on all sides but do not cook through, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Transfer browned meatballs to the crock pot. Pour French onion soup over the meatballs and add mushrooms if using.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-3 hours until meatballs are tender and cooked through.
  6. About 15 minutes before serving, sprinkle shredded Swiss cheese over the meatballs, cover again until cheese melts.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot, ideally over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use homemade French onion soup and serve the meatballs over toasted baguette slices for a delicious appetizer.
