Creamed Spinach

Creamed Spinach is a rich and velvety side dish featuring fresh spinach cooked in a smooth, creamy sauce that perfectly complements any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh spinach, washed and chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and shallot; cook until fragrant and translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine.
  5. Sprinkle in the Parmesan cheese and nutmeg, then season with salt and pepper.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  7. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for heavy cream, or add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a subtle kick.
