Delight in these warm, freshly baked cinnamon sugar bagels that combine a soft, chewy texture with a sweet cinnamon-sugar coating—perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon (for coating)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for greasing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, salt, and 3 ½ cups of bread flour; stir to combine.
  3. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, adding remaining flour as needed, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
  6. Shape each piece into a ball, then poke a hole through the center with your finger and gently stretch to form bagel shapes.
  7. Mix cinnamon and sugar together in a shallow bowl for coating.
  8. Bring a large pot of water to a boil; reduce to a simmer. Boil bagels in batches for 1 minute on each side.
  9. Remove bagels from water with a slotted spoon, dip one side in the cinnamon sugar mixture, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Bake in a preheated 425°F (220°C) oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try spreading cream cheese with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on your bagels, or toast them lightly before serving for added crunch.
