This cheesy green bean casserole elevates the classic comfort dish with extra cheese and a creamy sauce. A perfect side dish for holidays or any family meal!

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Steam or boil green beans until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and pepper. Stir in 1/2 cup of the cheddar cheese and the cooked green beans.
  4. Pour the mixture into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Top with the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese and 2/3 cup French fried onions.
  7. Bake for another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the onions are golden brown.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup French fried onions on top before serving.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the soup mixture. You can also use frozen green beans for convenience.
