Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm milk, melted butter, egg, lemon zest, and sugar. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add the flour and salt, stirring until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise at room temperature for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle approximately 12×16 inches.
  5. Evenly scatter the fresh blueberries over the dough, then roll it up tightly from the long side.
  6. Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place them cut side up in a greased baking dish.
  7. Cover and let rise for another 1-2 hours until puffy.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Meanwhile, whisk together powdered sugar and lemon juice to make the glaze.
  10. Drizzle the lemon glaze over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

For an extra burst of flavor, sprinkle some finely chopped lemon zest on top of the glaze before it sets.
