Apple and Cranberry Grilled Cheese

A deliciously sweet and savory grilled cheese sandwich combining crisp apples and tart cranberries for a perfect fall-inspired twist on a classic favorite.

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 1 small apple, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup cranberry sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet.
  4. Layer cheddar cheese evenly on the bread in the skillet.
  5. Spread cranberry sauce over the cheese, then add apple slices on top.
  6. Optionally drizzle honey over the apples for extra sweetness.
  7. Top with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
  8. Cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side, flipping carefully.
  9. Remove from skillet, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

For an extra crunch, add a handful of chopped walnuts or swap cheddar with gouda for a smoky flavor.
